Drop

Drop by gentle drop
this world is washed clean
unburdened
and made liquid light

Home Stretch

We can go a long time
each of us hoping
that maybe if we hold on
hold out, hold tight
then everything at last
will be all and right
This is a lie we tell
ourselves, each other
Hope alone
cannot get us home

Precious

This little precious life
you have worried thin and sleepless
tried to soothe
but went forward limping
until one day you sat
and looked and understood
that care for yourself
was not selfishness
but the precondition
for every other love

Awake

Awake before an early-rising sun
sleep-caught and lifted
I remember the truth:
this is the only moment

Peace

I purchase peace by what I give away
each day deciding to be less
unburdened
so whatever the day
the invitation comes
soft or sudden
I stand ready to welcome
the life ahead

Stone

This beautiful stone
dances on my finger
though we are long
past each other
I turn and let it
catch the light
to remember
what it was to hope
for a future together

Spring

These green friends have had
just enough light and air
a trickle of water
has kept them alive
but not thriving
what we all need now
to spring forward is a good
soul drenching

Tease

I see the way you tease
your small nick
draws just a drop of blood
but I must tend and mend it
with my soft tongue

Crush-Worthy

Entangled in every distraction
it took you a good long time to notice
how delicious I smell
when we stand close
how smoothly I move
as I walk away
how your heart adds beats
when you hear my words
thank goodness you have
come now to your senses
and realize at last
I am, indeed
crush-worthy

Weary

You are weary
Let me assure you:
all the care you have offered
the tenderness freely given
to friend and stranger
returns to lift you now
