Remember

Remember every time
you wanted him, her, them
but never spoke
or reached out your warm hand

They moved forward and away
oblivious to the rumbling
and thoughts unwelcome
you pressed into silence

It was too much to be raw
to risk loss like that
so none of us ever knew
we could be loved by you

Melon

Today I saw a man embrace
a prize-winning melon
He was so proud of what his
love had wrought

Every day he watered
shaded, sheltered
as he marveled at its girth
and the mottled emerald skin

How lucky to love like that
a heart full of the sweet
and ephemeral
always here, now

Sea

In a world now both familiar and strange
we see eyes, hands
the heights and dimensions of each other
pettiness, desperation
anger, searing grief
but also deep and enduring kindness
shining as moonlight
across a midnight sea
